Self-esteem, self-consciousness and social anxiety among college students

The present study aims to find the effect of self-esteem and self-consciousness on social anxiety among college students. A sample of 170 students from age 18-25 was included in the study. For the present study Self-Consciousness Scale–(SCS-R) by Scheier, M. F., & Carver, C. S., Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) by Mattick and Clarke’s (1998), and Rosenberg self-esteem scale were used to measure public and private self-consciousness, social anxiety and self-esteem respectively. The results showed a positive correlation between Public Self-consciousness and social anxiety, a negative correlation between self-esteem and social anxiety, and no correlation was found between Private self-consciousness and social anxiety.Metrics
