Abstract

The Panchakosha theory, which is rooted in Vedantic philosophy, offers a holistic framework for understanding personality through five layers of human existence—Annamaya (physical body), Pranamaya (vital energy), Manomaya (mental-emotional layer), Vijnanamaya (intellect-wisdom), and Anandamaya (bliss-consciousness). This paper explores the Panchakosha framework as a comprehensive model for personality development from an Indian psychological perspective. It contrasts the theory with Western personality models and highlights its implications for self-awareness, well-being, and spiritual evolution. Further, the study examines its relevance in contemporary psychology, especially in mindfulness, mental health interventions, and holistic self-development.
