Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior towards HIV/AIDS in India: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Despite the various effective campaigns through the intervention of knowledge, attitude, and behavior for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, this disease continues to be a significant public health issue in India. Essential services and their coverage are important to end and overcome from this HIV/AIDS pandemic. For this, it is very much important in our society that everyone should have enough knowledge about HIV/AIDS and accepting attitudes towards the people living with HIV/AIDS. Several studies throughout the world conducted research to assess the level of knowledge and general public attitude towards People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). This present research reviews the existing research papers on Knowledge, Attitude, Behavior, and practices related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic and those individuals who are suffering from this chronic illness. Aims and Objectives: The main objective of this review paper was to perform a systematic review to assess the knowledge, attitude, behavior, and practice regarding HIV/AIDS. Methods: A systematic review was performed and literature was searched on various online sources by using specific keywords. Result and Discussion: A total of 28 literature were included in this systematic review work. Although the overall level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS was satisfactory with more than 70% results but the participants with medical backgrounds had comparatively better knowledge and positive attitudes toward the general population. Conclusion: The current reviewed work revealed that there is still a gap in knowledge about HIV/AIDS among different social classes. Also, there is a negative attitude towards the people living with HIV/AIDS present in the society.Metrics
