The present study examines the quality and longevity of romantic relationships initiated through dating apps, the role of user motives in determining relationship satisfaction, and the impact of dating app usage on emotional well-being. A sample of 400 individuals (ages 18-35) who transitioned from online dating to offline relationships participated in the study. Relationship satisfaction was measured using the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS), life satisfaction using the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and dating app motives via a validated questionnaire. Quantitative analysis revealed that relationships formed through dating apps exhibited lower satisfaction (M = 24.5, SD = 4.2) than traditionally formed relationships (M = 26.3, SD = 3.8; t = 2.89, p = 0.004). Additionally, individuals using dating apps for committed relationships reported significantly higher satisfaction (M = 27.1, SD = 3.5) compared to those seeking casual encounters (M = 22.8, SD = 4.1; t = 4.12, p = 0.001). Frequent dating app users demonstrated lower life satisfaction (M = 18.4, SD = 5.2) than occasional users (M = 22.6, SD = 4.8), with a moderate negative correlation between app usage frequency and self-esteem (r = -0.42, p = 0.002). Qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews highlighted challenges in transitioning from online to offline interactions, discrepancies in commitment expectations, and emotional distress due to ghosting and rejection. These findings suggest that while dating apps facilitate romantic connections, their long-term success and psychological impact are influenced by user motives, commitment expectations, and the frequency of usage.Metrics
