Impact of Emotional Self-Efficacy and Emotional Intelligence on Adolescents’ Psychosocial Functioning

Introduction- Adolescence is a period of life where the individual is expected to confront and adapt to the rigorous modification in life with specific health and developmental needs and rights. At this period, adolescents experience both psychosocial and emotional changes. Aim- To investigate the relation between emotional self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and psychosocial functioning of the adolescents and find the association between emotional self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and psychosocial functioning among adolescents with the selected demographic variables. Materials and Method- A descriptive study was conducted among 150 adolescents between the age of 12 – 18 years using convenience sampling technique and the data was collected using semi structured interview schedule for collecting demographic data, Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test, The Adolescents’ Psychosocial Functioning Inventory and Emotional Self-Efficacy Scale for Adolescents. Results- The analysis of the data revealed that there is a statistically significant (r = 0.44, p=0.00) moderate positive correlation between emotional self-efficacy and emotional intelligence at p value <0.001. There was a significant association (p=0.02) between age of adolescents with the psychosocial functioning at p< 0.05. Conclusion- Emotional intelligence and emotional self-efficacy plays an important role in psychosocial functioning among adolescents.Metrics
