Perception of Indian population for ongoing COVID-19 infection

Abstract

Background: With the marked increase in the spread of the COVID-19 all over the world the rate of spread of rumours along with the disease spread was also observed in India. This brought up fear and panic among the population as a result of which majority of the people are found to be suffering from anxiety, depression and other mental health related disorders. Especially those people who are front foot fighters and their families’ are most affected.    Objectives: This article shows how few people on social media such as News Channels, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp etc., is spreading rumours related to COVID-19. At the same time, we tried to know the knowledge, attitude and practices adapted by people to stay safe and healthy through survey. Methods: An online questionnaire-based survey was conducted. It consists of around 19 question and people were asked to fill and submit it. Around 571 people participated in the survey. Results and Conclusion: Majority of people are found to be aware of the disease and its consequences. They know that social distancing and healthy routine is the only precautionary measure to stay safe. But still some people are there who are not taking the precautionary measures. More and more disease related awareness is required to be spread. Social media must become the platform for spreading correct disease related information in spite of spreading rumour. Lower economy class people who are completely hand to mouth needs to be made aware of the health services and facilities provided by the Govt. of India.
