The study on social media addiction and self-esteem among college students

Aim: “Social media addiction” or “excessive usage” will be defined as any usage of social media that causes problems with daily functioning, completion of tasks, relationships, and/or psychological deficits. (Wainner CN 2018). Self-Esteem is one’s positive or negative attitude toward oneself and one’s evaluation of one’s own thoughts and feelings overall in relation to oneself. (Rosenberg M, 1965). The present study aimed to investigate the social media addiction and self-esteem among college students across their gender. This study was conducted to examine social media addiction and self-esteem among college students, between the age category of 16 to 25 years. Method: A quantitative study was usedof sample size96 out of which 26 were males and 70 were females. The sample was collected through online survey method. The sample were collected by using Social Media Addiction scale (Cengiz Sahin, 2018) and Self Esteem scale (Rosenberg M, 1965). And the data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, Mann – Whitney U test. Results: The results show that there is no significant difference in the level of self-esteem among college students across their gender. There is no significant difference in social media addiction among college students across their gender.Metrics
