Abstract

Background: Family theories of addiction explore the significant role familial relationships play in the onset and perpetuation of substance abuse. These theories suggest that addiction is a systemic issue influenced by family dynamics, including structure, communication patterns, and relational interactions, rather than solely an individual’s problem. Aims/Objectives: The primary aim of family theories of addiction is to comprehend how family dynamics contribute to addictive behaviors and to develop effective family-based interventions. These interventions target dysfunctional family interactions to promote recovery and healthier family environments. Methods: A review of relevant literature and studies was conducted to evaluate the impact of family dynamics on addiction and the efficacy of family-based interventions. The analysis focused on identifying common dysfunctional patterns and the outcomes of family therapy programs. Results: Dysfunctional family dynamics, such as poor communication and unhealthy relational patterns, significantly contribute to the maintenance of addiction.
