Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the relationship between personality traits and life satisfaction among team and individual sport athletes. For this study, sixty (60) athletes participated, of which 30 were team sport athletes and 30 participants were individual sport athletes, all within the age range of 18-25 years. The samples were collected from the Guwahati region of India. To assess the personality traits, the Big Five Inventory Questionnaire was used, and to assess the level of life satisfaction, the Satisfaction with Life Scale was used. The descriptive statistics, such as mean, standard deviation, and std. error mean, etc. was used, and for the comparison among team and individual athletes on life satisfaction and personality traits, a t-test was used. Lastly, to study the relationship between personality traits on life satisfaction, the Pearson Correlation was used. The results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in life satisfaction or personality traits between the two groups. Future research on the relationship between personality and life satisfaction, however, revealed that there were differences in the significance of the findings. While individual sportsmen find happiness in being disciplined and emotionally stable, team players are happier when they are gregarious and pleasant. Coaches and support personnel may better address players’ requirements by being aware of these variances, which will result in happier and more fruitful athletic experiences.
